Training teachers for over 100 years

The Faculty of Health and Education at Manchester Met is the largest teacher training provider in the UK outside of London.

We train around 500 teachers every year across our extensive partnership network comprised of over 500 schools, colleges and organisations from education, community, charity, arts and business.

Our education postgraduate and professional development courses are designed to upskill your workforce to meet both organisational and personal goals. At doctoral level, we offer education research degrees, including a PhD in Education Research.

We were one of eight providers of the Early Career Framework (ECF), working with schools in Greater Manchester to build and deliver a tailored package of support, practical advice and development for teachers at the beginning of their careers.

We’re also home to the Education and Social Research Institute (ESRI); an environment comprised of researchers who challenge the foundations of educational research.

Our researchers are positively influencing teaching practice across the North West, through projects such as Realistic Maths Education and Odd: Feeling Different in the World of Education.

ESRI has a thriving research community that teachers can become a part of when enrolling on one of our research degrees.

Train from within your school

Some of our courses are available to be delivered at your school.

There are lots of benefits to studying outside the University campus:

  • study and learn collaboratively with your colleagues
  • fit your studying into your work life with study patterns and pedagogical approaches specifically designed for those with busy work lives and other commitments
  • learn as part of a small school or trust-based groups with the support and guidance of university tutors
  • save time by not commuting onto campus to study
